| | How to train them naturally without the use of Bark Collars. | | I have a yappy Shih_Tzu whom I love to bits. The thoughts of putting any sort of Collar on her to stop her barking, well seems too mean. I know some people use them and swear by them for training, but I couldn't do that. Neither could I use the Citronella ones. So I was wondering if anyone has advice on a natural way to stop the barking. She is fine if I am in the room. All I have to say is her name and she will stop. However, there is a field of cows next to my home and my dog will sit in the window for hours on end. So...blocking this window should fix the problem right? WRONG. Then she goes to the front door and barks and barks and barks at the door. I might add too..she is MUCH quicker then I am and if she happens to get out the door when the kids open it..out she goes..down the lane, under the electric fence and torments these cows just barking and barking at them! Help...my Shih_Tzu is a cow tormenter! | |
| | Do Bark Collars Actually Work? | | My dog barks a lot. And she barks loud. I just moved into my mom's house which is connected to another house I am afraid that the neighbors will get fed up with all of her barking. If anybody has tried the bark collar please let me know if it worked for you or not. Or what your thoughts on this is. | |
| | Dog training: Controlling barking | | My English springer spaniel, Max, has a thing about shadows. I've had him for three years now and he is approximately six years old. Until January we lived with my dad, but now we live in our own council flat, and spend a lot of time at my mom's house. When the sun is shining, and creating shadows everywhere, Max barks his head off. It doesn't matter if we're in the house, sitting on a bench in the park, or standing at the bus stop; if there's a shadow, he will bark at it. We're currently attending Canine Good Citizen classes and he's doing really well. Our trainer, Kay, says he's a very intelligent dog. She also said, however, that there is nothing she can do to help with the barking. She said that if he were a puppy she might be able to work with him, but since he's now, we just have to try to distract hjim with toys and thing whenever he starts to get upset. It doesn't work. The only thing that works is closing the curtains when we're in the house, and obviously we don't want to have to do that all the time when they weather is so lovely.I can't believe that nothing can be done to stop this habit of attacking shadows. He is a lovely dog and this is really the only... | |

| | Beagles are a mixed bag. | | Ever since I was a child watching the Peanuts cartoons, I've wanted a beagle. My first two dogs were golden retrievers, which are really great dogs. They are loving and very easy to train. Then I got a beagle. It took my golden retriever about 2 weeks to be house broken, but it took the beagle over a year. If there were food around all the time, he'd never stop eating. He's like a human vacuum cleaner. And the barking and howling. I swear, he can hear someone 4 blocks away and starts to bark. I've tried two different bark collars, neither of them worked. But, he's totally worth it. He's a great dog and totally devoted to me. He does this cute thing when I crawl into bed each night by cuddling up to me and tucking his head up under my chin. I'm not sure why he does it, but I love it. | |
