Free Standing Pet Gates Discussions | | Top 18 Skylines in the World | | All my years in studying Urban Planning helped me grow a greater appreciation for the dense downtown skyline of the big city. The downtown core of big cities across the Americas, Europe and Asia are the cultural pulse and economic engines of urban regions where millions of people live. All urban "life" begins and ends, each day and night under the watch of the city's tallest skyscrapers and most grand architectural structures. So kick back and appreciate the view that they have to offer... 1. Hong Kong, China
Hong Kong is number one on my list for many reasons: Hong Kong has a whopping 43 buildings over 200 metres tall, 30 of which were built in the year 2000 or later!!! It also boasts four of the 15 tallest buildings in the world… that's all in one city! Hong Kong’s skyline shows a large selection of distinct sky-reaching towers, with beautiful night lighting and reflection. This city exemplifies the post-modern skyscraper and skyline. Finally, the mountain backdrop makes this skyline (as you can clearly see) the greatest on the planet!
Metro/Urban Population: 6.9 million2. Chicago, USA
Chicago is the birthplace of the modern skyscraper. When Chicago built its first...
| | Island of Intrigue | | I was lost. Again. I've been here times, and yet I confess that I spend much of my time in Malta hopelessly lost, an embarrassing admission considering the island is only about 17 miles at its longest point, nine at the widest. But, I am not alone in my directional dyslexia. Nearly all independent travelers to Malta spend part of the time wondering where they are, a source of mirth for the locals. A Canadian friend who worked here discovered an office tradition of placing bets on how late newcomers would arrive on their first day at work. The Maltese are used to strange visitors invading their homeland. Almost every nation with interests in the Mediterranean, from the Phoenicians in the 9th century BC to the British in the 20th century, has claimed Malta as its own. It has one of the world's great natural harbors and a location in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea between Sicily and Tunisia. Some of the greatest figures of history - St. Paul, Napoleon, Count Roger the Norman - have set foot on Malta's rocky shores. All have left their mark on the island's landscape, and as a result, Malta is a living, breathing museum, a place where all of Mediterranean history,... | |
| | Cake vs. pie | | (yes, i will dwell on this FOREVER!)
I don't remember how this all started, but it was the night we were bored and someone asked cake or pie, and that was the day my life changed forever...
you see, i never really, REALLY thought about it. i mean, i was dead set on fudgy brownies over fluffy ones; i'd known that for a while. but cake? and pie?
hmmm, i had to act fast. i chose pie.
since then, i've had to defend my position against the snobby cake eaters of the world (i'm not saying i don't eat cake, i just don't like it) and i'm not sure what the score is as far as my personal poll goes, but my movement has met quite a bit of opposition.
who doesn't like pie? i don't understand this. i'm going to start with the reasons by which i formed my disdain for cake.
1) cake is boring. people have to decorate them to make them all pretty and interesting.
2) cake is not tasty. the only thing that could redeem a bite of cake is frosting.
3) cake is a glorified bread.*
*see poundcake
4) frosting is gross. it's seductively colored then smeared and squirted (if that sounds appetizing to you, maybe you should just stick to the cake, cake eater ala clueless). this just supports that...
| | the cn tower | | this is one of the greatest placed i've ever been to, its the tallest free standing building in the world, standing at over 1000ft. the view is simply breathtaking. the best part for me was standing on 3 inch glass looking down hundreds of feet, and watching the goings on of toronto. i strongly reccomment you go to the cn tower, unless you have a fear of heights.
has anyone else had this great experience?

| | The TALLEST TOWER | | The world's tallest free-standing structure is the 1815 foot CN Tower in Toronto, Canada. It is not exactly a building, since it does not have stories. "Free-standing" means it supports its own weight and is not attached to anything. Brave visitors csan walk across the glass floor at the 1122-foot level. | |
| | Water Drainage Problems! | | Free standing dish racks. You know the type. These are the ones that you set on the counter. They have a mat for drainage etc. The rack sits on top of the rack. It's supposed to drain the water into the sink by gravataional actions. I use this a lot as I have no dishwasher. My problem I have is this...
I have biought many different brands of said racks/drainage mats. I've spent anywhere from $2 up to $12 for these different brands. The problem is the drainage mat always seems to curl up to the point that water collects in the corners of the mat. The Rubbermaid brand I now have is so bad that the mat has curled up to the point it's litterally touching the underside of the rack itself. This water then starts to fall onto my counter setting and what not. Is there any type of mats for this that ACTUALLY drain all the water run off to the sink and not collect on the mat? I wished they made a felxible mat that drains actually. I can not find a soft drainage mat at all. They have sink mats but not the type for drainage of dishes etc. What oh what can I do with this. My wife gets mad at me because I toss the drainage mat aside setting the rack across the sinks edges as it fit perfectly....
