| It seems I have a hamster farm going on here. | | Okay people bearwith me here this is rather long.We had started out with a male and female hamster about 3 years ago and they never had babies.My husband said that he read online that Petco stores' hamsters are kind of like hamsters that are used in labratory purposes and then Petco gets them.Wether that is true or not are female hamster never got pregnant.Well when are other two hamsters died(the female hamster named snowball died last,and she liked to jump off of this thing we had in her cage and we had to take it out because we were afraid that she would get hurt.)my husband already got 2 other hamster before snowball died and she got along great with the new male and female hamster.I guess they thought of her as a mother.But the female hamster Daisy, never had babies either.Well we went to Petco and was going to get the male for Daisy wich is named BOO BOO,the employee said that it is best to get the hamsters from the same littr and then asked us question,Practically grilled us down to the tee about what cage she was going to be in and everything.At the time we told her an aquarium(they are in a caged hamster cage now)she got kind of rude and said you cannot put that hamster... | |
| | Looking for a new hamster cage. What's good? | | Hey all. I really want to buy my sister a hew habitat for her hamster, since her birthday's coming up on April 10. We currently have three Hartz cages, connected, and some Hartz tubing (since we haven't found another brand that fits with Hartz), but my sister's hamster is relentlessly trying to pull a Houdini, and I think even if she wasn't always trying to get out, the tubes might fall apart anyway. The whole thing is just very frustrating. we bought some extra tubing yesterday for her cage, and in under an hour, she was wriggling out of the tube where another piece had fallen off.So, I'm trying to find some reliable, high-quality cage and tubing brands.I've also been thinking about building a custom cage for my sister. The only thing is, I'm no carpenter (thankfully, my father's pretty handy in that medium), and I'm very worried about the security of the structure and any doors that would be on it. Also, I worry about providing proper ventilation, etc. You know. Basically, I worry about everything.So I'm really looking for advice in both or either of these areas. | | Hamster Problems: Wont Chew The Stuff I Gave Her!! Help Help!!!! | | I have a dwarf hamster, I've had her almost a week (on Tue) and I have a problem. She WONT chew the stuff I give her! I gave her wooden blocks, a mineral wheel and even wooden sticks from the local PetCo. She WAS chewing the wooden sticks but stopped within a few minutes. I hear milk bones are good for them and they work, and I will get some tomorrow. But till then any suggestions to get her to chew what I have for her already?Its costing more and more because I buy stuff she wont chew at all or long enough. I am worried about her! I put lemon juice on her bars and she has stopped thankfully chewing those. I heard from several sources its bad to do that which is why I put the lemon juice.Tonight she finally climbed the big tub ring I gave her, and went up there JUST to chew the plastic! She is obessed with chewing anything but what I gave her that she SHOULD chew!Please help! This is my first hamster and I know they are only around for a few years. | Do you give your kids an allowance? | | My 7 year old is bugging me to give her an allowance for doing house work because her cousins get one. I feel that as a member of the family she should help out...after all the only chores she has is to clean her room and put away laundry....and once a week she has to clean out her hamster cage. What do you think? Should I break down and pay her for cleaning up after herself and her pet or is teaching her responsibility enough? HELP!! | |
| | Typical Saturday in your life? | | So it's Saturday here in the U.S. A time off from work for many people. Of course life varies week to week but what is your typical Saturday like?Mine basically follows this line:Wake up
Daily scripture with family
breakfast
While everyone goes off to dress or whatever, I check email, mylot, etc.
The earlier portion of the day is spent cleaning house. Not the daily stuff but the weekly deep-down stuff like window sills, baseboards, etc.
Wash the dog and the hamster cage out back.
Gardening for the rest of the day. (I live in Florida so this is year round)
Dinner
Go for an hour-long walk with the children, grandbaby and dog.
Bible studies
Bath and bed for the little ones.

| | Why did my hamster do that!!!! | | Me and my friend got stoned the other day and for fun we blew smoke into my hamsters cage. Nothing happened at first but then the hamster came out of his hole climbed to the top of his cage and sat there staring and the Indiana Jones movie that was on.
the next day i came down stairs and saw that the hamster cage had been taken off.
i quickly looked all around for the hamster suddenly i heard a crunching sound coming
from the cabinet. i opened it up to find a Kellogg's rice crispies box with a hole in the side corner and the fat cheeked hamster inside. | |

| Do you have a pet that coexist with your iguana? | | My Iguana shares my apartment with my cat, my cat has been aggressive against her but she doesn’t fight back and by far the cat haven’t done anything against her. I also have some hamsters, there was a time were for some random reason, I woke up with my Iguana sleeping on my hamster cage, I don’t know how did she get there, Thank God Iguanas are vegetarians. My hamster doesn’t live on a tank; she just roams around my apartment. Do you have pets that live with your Iguana? | |
| | Hamster cage smell | | I'm sure there are other people out there that have had issues with the smelly hamster cage. I think I have finally found the solution to the problem. No more smell! I have tried so many things. This works the best. I went to tractor supply and bought some Equine Fresh. Its all natural pine pellet bedding for horses. Then I got Greenfresh natural bedding. I only put the bedding in the corner he sleeps in and the pellets every where else. Presto! The odor is gone! I clean up the corner that he pees in and once a week or so change the pellets in the rest of the cage. It works great and I don't have to use harsh detergents that don't get the smell out anyways. And the bedding and pellets will both last a long time and they aren't that expensive. I think I might have 10 bucks in it. | |
