| | Rampur Hound - The Exotic Indian Breed faces extinction | | The Rampur Hound is a rare and smooth-haired Sighthound from North India. It evolved in the fiefdom of Rampur, which lies between Delhi and Bareilly. The ruler of Rampur, Ahmed Ali Khan Bahadur, wanted to create a swift and fierce breed for the dangerous past-time of hunting wild boars, and so interbred good native dogs with foreign breeds like Tazis, Afghans, and English Greyhounds. The result of these intermixtures was the Rampur Hound.
The Rampur Hound far exceeded the Ruler's expectations. From its Tazi and Afghan ancestors, it got its looks and stalwart character and from the English Greyhound it got its speed. Here was a dog that would seldomly back down in confrontations, and could more or less keep up with the fastest prey. It was also extremely intelligent to deal with the wily and formidable boars, and, even when severely injured, was not known to give up the chase. The boar was brought down eventually, but, several times, the Rampur Hound too died, either during the Hunt or later of the sustained injuries.

| | Wild animals | | Many years ago, as a young man, my family was doing a waterskiing show at a resort on an island in Wisconsin. During a break in the action I went for a walk on the beach. While walking I was approached by a large "dog". Being the friendly type that I am, I reached down and petted this "dog" and scratched him behind his ears. Soon other "dogs" came and joined us as we walked. They were all around me, when I heard someone scream, and all the "dogs" vanished into the brush. It was my Mom that had screamed. I looked at her and said "Mommy, you made the "dogs" run away". She said "those were not dogs, they were wolves." | | Dog Problems | | We've owned a home before and in our last our primary pet was a cat. Well cats. We would find abandoned kittens under a bush in our front yard constantly. We learned not to call animal control because they just kill kittens so we started taking care of them. Its important that a kitten be with its mother because mothers milk helps their immune systems along. Because mother was not there we had to buy kitten formula from the pet store and bottle feed them. Out of the many cats we found we only kept one. A white cat we named Hermione. Before we moved she was hit by a truck. When we moved we bought a house with an acre of land and I wanted to get a dog. I thought it would instill a good lesson upon my kids to take them down to the animal shelter to buy a dog. My wife wanted a small dog, one that would get no bigger then a large cat, but the second day we came ot the shelter I found the dog I wanted. Chester is a black labrador retriever, when I asked to see him, he ran up to me tail wagging and sat.
