Pet Training Supplies Discussions| How To House Train a Dog - The First Step | | I do a lot of writing in various areas and much of it has to do with how to do things. Usually, the articles are fairly general and are related to more extensive and complex resources available online. After all, one short article isn't going to be enough to teach you how to house train a dog. The point though is that, in almost every case, people's apparent inability to achieve their goal, whether it's how to potty train a dog or stop a cat's destructive behavior, is almost always the result of not actually carrying through and doing it.There are books, training videos, probably vast MP3 collections, all of which can teach you or show you how to house train a dog. Now there are some people who are collectors. They just love to get everything about dog training, dogs, dog breeds all the way to the that non-existent but highly desirable "The Everything Dog Training and Trick Book". Others are really looking for a solution but keep going from one to another looking for something that requires no effort on their part. Just like everything else in life, potty training a dog takes actual work and effort on
| | Clicker Training: Why It Works | | Clicker training is popping up everywhere these days, from PetCo and PetSmart to independent training. It's a great way to enjoy a positive relationship with your dog (or cat, or parrot, or even fish). A clicker marks the behavior you want, which you then reward with a treat. You begin to start looking for good behavior instead of bad, and your dog begins to start offering good behaviors. What fun! Does anyone out there have any questions about clicker training, or want to share their experiences? BTW, check out www.clickertraining.com for a more in-depth explanation of clicker training. | |
| | How to correct housetraining mistakes with our new adopted puupy? | | We recently adopted a puppy from a shelter and when we first got him, there were no accidents in the house, and he was great in the kennel at night. Then after just a few days he would go to the door to go out.
Then last week he had an accident when no one was watching him, completely our fault. We cleaned it up, sprayed the pet stuff on the spot and took him outside.
Now, he still goes outside but we have to be on constant watch because he'll go in the house, there's no urgency to tell us he has to go outside.
We, of course, take him out regularly and feed him on schedule, but I need to know an effective way to get him out of this habit, (because after my 5 year old stepped in some poop and used a pillow to wipe it off, I've been grossed out enough).
So, is it just time and ruotine or is there something I can do along with this? Also, he is now about 10 weeks, and very small, they think he is a shipoo-min. schnauzer cross, cutest ever!
Any advice is greatly appreciated and awaited! Thanks!
| | What to do about my dog... please help! | | I have two dogs and they keep on taking my socks and underwear and putting them all over the house. I tried putting them in the hamper and they will knock it over and get them any way. Then they will put them all around the house. Mainly on the living room floor right where i can see them. I know this may sound disgusting but i have no idea what to do and they won't stop! What should i do? | |
| | Would you leave your kid with a dog | | When we think of dogs, we think of an intelligent, protective and friendly creature. But, given an opportunity, would you ever leave your kid in a dog's custody. Is it safe to leave your kid attended by a dog even if you are very confident of your pet's training and skills? | |
| | Does anyone have any advice for us? | | What do I have to do to get my cats to stop fighting? I believe it all started when I accidentally ran over Cougar's tail with the computer chair. Clarissa was sitting next to her, and I think Cougar associates the bad experience with Clarissa and that Clarissa caused her pain. Now, I have to put Cougar down in the basement at night so Clarissa can come out from under the bed and do her business. Clarissa won't come out from hiding because Cougar attacks her everytime she sees her. Both cats are spayed. It's been going on for almost a year now, and it's just ridiculous! I watch "The Dog Whisperer" and use some of his techniques on Cougar (HAHAHA!) and she has actually calmed down a bit, but she does still harass Clarissa whenever she sees her. They used to be best pals, now they can't even be in the same room together. Any hints on what I can do? | |

| | Can you train a cat not to do things?? | | My kitty won't stay off the dining room table or the coffee table! This really upsets me because she knocks things off (including glasses filled with water, pop etc) and spills them, or she ruins papers that are up there or simply takes off with an ear ring or something and then it is lost forever! I always yell at her and push her off the table or swat her butt if she doesn't jump off before I can, but my boyfriend says that she's never going to learn because I'm not always home to yell at her, so when I'm gone she'll continue to jump up there anyway... is there anything I can do to get her to stop??? | |

| | do you believe in spanking your pet? | | if your pet had done something wrong or bad, should you spank him/her? to teach him/her a lesson through spanking the pet? should we hurt them or just teach them through raising our voice? how do you discipline your pet? what type of owner are you?i have a friend and she has many dogs like I am. but last night when i went to her her house, i saw her yelling at her dog princess because she didn't poop at her toilet or potty location. my friend teaches her a lesson and she also spank her when the dog barked at her. i was just shocked because for me i don't think we should hurt our pets to teach them a lesson, we can some alternatives like raising our voice or saying no!!! hurting them won't do any good, it will make them scared at you or have the tendency to be traumatized by what you did. and that pet won't be that close to you anymore. she/he will back off some space. pets do have feelings too.that's why i don't believe we should spank our pets. what your opinion about this? | |
